I read several things on-line today. Every single one of them was compiled as a list, with a ranking system that while often arbitrary had me either puffed up with pride or totally deflated depending upon where I found myself, my company or my client on that list. Our (and I say “our” because I know I’m not the only one) preoccupation with lists and their ranking systems, and our dedication to assigning meaning or value to them is something that I’ve been interested in for some time. The recent launch of Twitter’s list functionality seems to validate this preoccupation for me. Today, I read or revisited:
Business in Vancouver’s Top Graphic Design Firms in BC
Ski Magazine’s Top 50 Resorts
Business in Vancouver’s Top Marketing Firms in BC
Twitter’s Top 400+ Action Sport Brands on Twitter
Tech Vibes Top Web Development Firms in BC
Skiing Magazine’s 2009 Resort Survey
Twitter’s Top 140 Advertising/Marketing Bloggers
Ski Area Management’s Annual Terrain Park Contest
10 Things Social Media Can’t Do for You
So much for self-validation. – DK
