The cost of doing business

SIA released the 2009 Cost of Doing Business and Compensation Study this past week. SIA completes this study once every three years to benchmark industry salaries and other compensation, and various categories of business costs.

Here are some highlights from this year’s study:

  • The average Snow Industry Commission Rep sold $707,000 and earned $59,388 for a single firm. Many represent multiple firms
  • 85% of snow industry companies offer health benefits to employees
  • Export sales were 14% of total revenue on average
  • The average large company realized a 1.6% profit and the average small company had a 10.6% loss in FY2008
  • Compared to 2005, overall snow sports industry salaries and other compensation increased 24%
  • CEO – Up 35%
    CFO – Up 23%
    VP of Marketing- Down 1%
    VP of Product and Design – Up 40%
