How to Train an Intern, with Tom Sachs

If we were to draft our own script for an intern training video, it would contain these bullets:

1. Do not EVER make the coffee. You will make it too watery, too weak, or too washed out to properly fuel production here. Leave that to one of the 3 designated team members who have been pre-qualified to prepare the Origin house brew.

2. Bring cake. At any random time. Cake makes us happy. It’s simple, really.

3. A wheel is a wheel. Don’t reinvent it. Do the job you’re asked to do, according to the instructions you are given. The best way to get noticed is not to try to be noticed. #originzen

And on that note, here is the most awesome intern training video from a creative studio that we have ever seen. Thank you Tom Sachs.

I’m going up the mountain, and all I need is this sleeping bag, this camera and this mega-big torch…

Janalee Budge caught up with Mike Douglas as he packed his gear in preparation of being embedded on the mountain. He was most stoked about his giant torch… although we’re not sure if it made the final packing cut, or not…

Here’s episode two! (PS Happy birthday, Mike!)

Embedded is live. And winter is here!

*Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while climbing it* – Andy Rooney.

The social-sphere is abuzz today with the launch of #WBEmbedded, a campaign we developed for Whistler Blackcomb to douse winter stoke with jet fuel and light things up! Creative savant Mike Douglas (always willing to take one for the team) has moved out of his cozy little Whistler pad, still sporting a tan from his recent family vacation in Maui, and taken up residence on the top of Whistler Mountain, in the ski patrol shack, to document the onset of winter, where’s he’s logging the experience for us.

Episode 1 is live today. Check it out, and enjoy the buzz. Opening day is Friday and the forecast is for half a metre of snow this week!

Q: Do you have a love/hate relationship with deadlines?

A: Just the unrealistically tight ones. Here’s why.

The Peak to Peak Experience at YVR Shortlisted

The Media Innovation Awards gala is still two weeks away. But great news released last week confirmed that our collaboration project with Tourism Whistler, Whistler Blackcomb and Wasserman Partners has made it to the MIAs shortlist.

The Peak to Peak Experience at YVR” is shortlisted under the category of Ambient/Place-Based Media (large scale) and is a great example of thinking outside the Gondola. (if we do say so ourselves!)

Q: How do you communicate the experience of soaring between the peaks of Whistler and Blackcomb to tourists as they arrive at the YVR International terminal?

A: You take the vehicle and the views to them.

And we’re in good company! Complete shortlist available here

Moodboard Monday – Anticipation for Winter

We know that – for a lot of people out there – fall is just a bummer season… summer is over, it’s dark going to work, it’s dark leaving work, it never stops raining and depression sets in. But for us Originers, fall is something totally different. We are in full anticipation for winter! OK, so it’s pretty sad putting away the bike gear (although a little rain hasn’t stopped all of us) and having to put toques on after a surf session, but there is no question, our mood in here is excited – we are keeping busy shopping for the latest gear, making room in our closets for skis, helmets and daydreaming all work day long, rolling bowling balls down Village Stroll and staring out our windows at snow capped mtns (if we ever get to see the top, through the storm clouds)… Winter is coming!

In fact looking outside today – it’s already here!
